Microsoft and the new Windows version. (Windows 10x)
2020-10-27 at 19:24Oh boy. This time they really bit the bullet and seem to have dropped NT. I hope they did. Apparently they reworked everything with modern technologies.
It's ARM ready and ships without win32 support. This has big implications for older software like games and utility that people are using right now. Will they finally use a package center now? Maybe they even implemented a package manager!
I was waiting for this day. After ditching all the legacy code I can imagine that the release cycles will be a lot quicker than previous operating systems from Microsoft. It's made with low power chromebooks and 2 in 1s in mind so I bet it'll run quickly too.
I wonder what technologies they picked and considered "modern" and mature enough to use it for their big boy project. Imagine the headlines if they picked some more exotic languages instead of picking the 40 year old C stack! Oh I can't wait to see the Windows hacking scene pick it apart and reveal its secrets.
